The fruits of the kumquat are up to four centimetres long and dark orange to golden yellow. The shell is thin and fine-pored, with several segments containing edible seeds inside. Since the
shell of kumquats is always untreated, you can eat it with the food. The flesh tastes sweet and sour, while the skin tastes tart, comparable to candied orange peel. Because of its
appearance it is also called dwarf orange, but it belongs to the rhombic family and is only related to citrus fruits.
Kumquats are rich in B vitamins, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and iron. It also contains twice as much vitamin C as oranges. They have a draining and astringent effect and are
said to help with coughs and digestive problems.
